  • Being part of BEK gives me the chance to connect to networks and inspiring people relevant to my interests and ambitions, as well as offering me the chance to participate in workshops around ongoing personal development opportunities. I really enjoy the range of experiences on the menu!

    — Sian, BEK Connect participant age 17

  • We are delighted to have chosen to partner with BEK in supporting the design and development of their programme content and the opportunities for young people offered by BEK Connect, including through our offer of a cohort of volunteer mentors to help young people set personal goals.

    — Ben Morrison, Lane4

  • Attending a workshop for the second year running (this year on line) hosted by Barings Bank, was another great BEK Connect experience. The focus was on how a candidate can excel in a job interview . Given this is relevant to me at the moment, I found this so helpful.

    — Luca, attendee at The Barings Bank Workshop, age 17

  • As a regular supporter of BEK's fundraising initiatives, I am always pleased to know when my support can be matched by opportunities like these and to see at close hand how BEK allocates its funding to ensure more young people year on year benefit from its work,

Situation

For many young Londoners in low scoring socio-economic areas, the playing field is not level. As well as challenges around low self esteem due to negative attitudes of wider society and a lack of positive role models, there is frequent inequality of opportunity, exposure to uninspiring environments and social and economic barriers to accessible pathways towards personal and career development. Heightened by Covid, there is a dearth of experiences to level the playing field.

Solution

When the whistle blows on Covid, we want to be reaching even more young people than ever before, enabling them to benefit from a range of personal skills development programmes and a breadth of experiences, mentoring opportunities and connections to businesses and individuals which create pathways to employabitly, further education and enhanced career prospects; to develop our partnership strategy to achieve ongoing impact around our delivery, our experiences for young people and our funding.
