We want young people to be at the heart of Eat Club, voicing their concerns around local food poverty and driving the action to confront it. Eat Club wishes to develop an internal youth-led, decision-making structure to facilitate the voice of young Londoners in local community food networks.

    Situation

Young people have been dealt a poor hand by the Covid pandemic and their futures remain uncertain. #FreeSchoolMeals and #EndChildFoodPoverty shone a long-overdue light on the terrible state of child food and nutrition provision and the lack of inclusion of youth voices and their experiences of food inequality. The youth are often overlooked when it comes to policy and decision-making. Therefore, as a charity "for" young people, we believe that Eat Club should be led "by" young people.

    Solution

We aim to support young Londoners in food leadership training and development, equipping them with the skills and confidence to drive local effort against food inequality. We will develop a Young Leaders Programme to integrate and amplify the voices of young people within our organisation and their wider communities. Enrolling them in this programme and bringing them to the heart of Eat Club, we hope to reignite their drive and to widen and increase our impact as we move into a post-Covid world.
