  • It really worked for us as a family activity during lockdown/new normal of being homebound. It brings us together as 4 chefs and increases teamwork and kindness toward each other. The dishes are great and we wish you great success in securing new funding. A very socially valuable service.

  • I think it is a wonderful idea. This box helps us and has given my daughter a passion for cooking rather than just baking. Cooking is a life skill and I feel it is important that she learns to cook at 13 years old.

  • It’s been a wonderful project to be part of and our children have learned new skills and a better understanding of how meals are prepared. It has been a brilliant activity that we have been able to enjoy as a family and have had lots of fun in the process!

Situation

- To proactively address the growing issue of food hunger in children through fun, family activity - To build resilience for the long term by providing children, youth & families with with key cooking skills and the confidence in how to cook healthy, balanced and affordable meals - To bring families together around food in the home; encouraging family units to cook and eat together - To inspire a generation of future cooks to re-establish a cultural connection with food

Solution

Over a 12 week term we support over 430 families from 24 schools & 5 youth-focused organisations equating to over 900 children each week. Each family is in the project for a year to help develop a real love for cooking & to establish healthy cooking & eating habits. We have a termly menu selection meaning children build up an array of key cooking skills & experience a range of culturally diverse foods. Children receive certificates at our Chef Awards presentation at the end of the year.
