Situation
Children are living on a planet not fit for purpose. They are breathing toxic air which can cause long lasting health problems, such as life threatening pneumonia. Cyclones and heatwaves are increasing in frequency and ferocity, disrupting their learning. Floods are compromising water and sanitation facilities, leading to diseases such as cholera. And changing global rainfall patterns are leading to severe food insecurity, which is preventing many children from reaching their full potential.
Solution
UNICEF will work to protect children’s futures in 190 countries through activities like upgrading water pumps and cold storage for vaccines with solar power to improve reliability and reduce C02 emissions. We plan to increase access to eco-cookstoves and solar lamps to address deforestation and air-pollution and turn plastic waste from the streets into classrooms. By empowering young climate ambassadors, we will ensure voices of children are heard at high-level discussions about their world.
