    Situation

The global climate emergency is hitting Africa’s poorest, hardest. Increased temperatures, unpredictable rainfall and extreme weather events are making it harder for farming families to produce the food that they need. These farmers don’t use electricity, cars or machinery - they are among the least responsible for carbon emissions - but some of the worst affected by climate change. More frequent droughts, floods and pest invasions, are creating a difficult environment in which to survive.

    Solution

Tree planting is one of the most effective ways to mitigate the effects of climate change and help farmers to produce enough food and earn a living from their land. A single mature tree can remove upwards of 25kgs of harmful greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere. In addition to carbon sequestration, trees provide shade and shelter, help to prevent soil erosion, restore degraded land and offer a valuable source of food and nutrition; tackling poverty and improving the lives of local communities.
