    Situation

In 2021 16.9 million people across Afghanistan will face acute hunger (one of the highest in the world), and almost to one in two children under the age of five are predicted to face acute malnutrition this year. Over half the population relies on agriculture and families are finding it increasingly difficult to survive. The multiple challenges of climate change, extreme weather and natural disasters, and now COVID-19 are making finding food a major challenge and putting lives in serious danger.

    Solution

Afghanaid supports families in some of the poorest and most remote communities in Afghanistan. Our teams are on the ground providing emergency food, hygiene and other assistance to get vulnerable people through tough times; and long-term support to help communities get back on their feet, mitigate the risks of disasters like floods and drought, learn new skills, grow more food and diversify agricultural livelihoods, better prepare for future shocks like the pandemic, and save lives.
