With local police we will deliver a 4 week Summer Camp, with 14 workshops a 100 trips out in Lambeth and Wandsworth for 200 young people during July and August. The NHS guidelines say that young people need to take part in at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. We can offer that.

    Situation

Covid-19 means that many organisations cannot provide the much needed, out of school youth provision or youth crime diversion initiatives, so therefore much rests on our shoulders. There is a need for summer activities for young people during the long summer school holidays. We operate in very diverse boroughs. About 66% of the Project users are black, 22% mixed heritage or another ethnicity, 10% white, 2% Asian. 40% are considered to be special needs or have learning difficulties.

    Solution

In 2020 hardly any organisations addressed the importance for young people to release their pent up energy and frustration after months of Covid-19 related lockdown. With determination and confidence and having only 4 weeks to prepare, we managed to successfully run two much needed summer camps. We want to do the same in 2021. The projects will be managed by experienced Police Schools Officers who have undergone specialist training and supported by qualified youth workers and volunteers.
