    Situation

The British Kashmiri diaspora is one of the largest ethnic minority communities in the UK and experiencing ethnic disparities due to non-recognition of their ethnic identity in the Census and local ethnic data monitoring. Despite political representation (MPs, Lords, Councillors), we lack meaningful influence in shaping public policy and getting on the agenda for reducing racial discrimination, educational attainment gap, health inequalities and removing barriers in our social mobility.

    Solution

We are hosting and supporting the British Kashmiri Identity Campaign (BKIC) to; 1- to increase the participation of British Kashmiris in the Census 2021 and to achieve equality and inclusion at all levels in the UK, and 2- to ensure that our community needs are fully identified and included in the national and local policy and decision-making processes e.g. health, education, employment, housing and other service provision across the UK.
