Situation

In the UK, approximately 5,000 prosthetic legs end up in landfills every year. Meanwhile, in Africa, 1.7 million amputees are in need of a limb to help them live independent lives. Legs4Africa is the charity aiming to change this imbalance.

Solution

By providing parts that are no longer needed from donors and NHS Hospitals in the UK we can not only ensure that amputees have access to the technology they need to walk again but we can also stop artificial limbs from ending up in landfill - reducing pressures on the environment.

  • "From such a simple equation of matching an unwanted limb to someone who wants it, they have expanded to impact the lives of so many people and communities. It is a unique mission, and one that is run with such a professional approach despite the small size of the charity."
