This campaign has now closed

During lockdown, online workouts proved insufficient to maintain social engagement of our young rowers. Rowing in groups in single sculls however had an astounding effect on their mental health. We now seek to buy additional boats so we can maintain a sense of belonging & team spirit despite COVID.

    Situation

The COVID lockdown had a severe effect on teenage minds. While some of our young rowers became even more eager to exercise and meet friends, others withdrew entirely to the point of social exclusion. Moving our training sessions online was promising at first but ultimately failed to reach our most disadvantaged beneficiaries. Socially distanced in-person group exercise in single sculling boats on the water however managed to re-engage them and provided an urgent mental health boost.

    Solution

We want to be able to offer all of our beneficiaries the opportunity to row in singles multiple times a week with their friends. Singles provide a safe way to exercise in a group while maintaining social distancing. Our hope is that this will allow our kids to regain confidence in their social interactions and overcome the anxiety that many of them have built up. To enable this, we will buy additional singles so that we can provide our services on a larger scale and adjust to COVID-19.
