Jinja Educational Trust works in partnership with schools in Uganda to provide quality education and opportunities for young people to reach their full potential. We want to give students of all ages IT skills for the digital era and access to online learning via interconnected IT hubs at 3 schools.

    Situation

ICT supports learning and teaching across all subjects, providing resources while preparing learners for the future; it develops skills in critical thinking, creativity, innovation. At secondary level it is being integrated into all subjects. Primary children are not prepared for this: they usually have no access to IT facilities or lessons so are unable to develop these skills vital for their future. Schools were completely unprepared for Covid-19 and are unable to support remote learning.

    Solution

JET has an IT facility at our Resource Centre (RC) which children and teachers on site can access. We will provide a networked environment and internet connectivity for local and online access to educational content, making it easy for teachers to conduct IT and other lessons. By setting up IT hubs at other schools and connecting them to the RC, remote access to this content and online classes across the network becomes possible. We can enable distance learning in the event of future crises.
