  • There is no way my parents could have provided by their own means the thorough and inspiring music education I received at CYM.

    — Django Bates, CYM alumnus, jazz musician & composer

  • An education across 8 years that set me on the course to being a musician – I would not have done the things I have done since if I hadn’t been to CYM.

    — Richard Causton, CYM alumnus, Composer Reader in Composition at the University of Cambridge

  • The FYM bursary means a lot to me. It helped me stretch my musical aptitude and without it I would not have been able to attend CYM.

    — CYM student and composer of the award-winning ‘The Train Journey’

  • I'm 17 and play the French horn in the CYM Wind Band. I have toured with them... which has improved my musical skills and taken me on a journey that I would never have experienced otherwise. This has all been made possible by the bursary I have received without which I would not be where I'm today.

    — Milo, CYM student

Owing to the ongoing lack of progressive music educational opportunities in schools, students who are passionate about music need to pay if they want to further their studies. Not all families are in a position to offer such financial help. FYM bursaries allow all talented young Londoners access to a high-quality music education, regardless of family background, situation or means to pay.

By providing financial support for those students in need, to attend CYM every Saturday, which enables them to benefit from a variety of different activities including individual lessons on their chosen instruments, playing in ensembles, bands and orchestras including London’s premier youth orchestra, the LSSO, during school holidays), singing in choirs, composing their own music, and learning general musicianship skills and about the wider aspects of performing arts.
