We want to enhance Sowenna with equipment and therapeutic programmes that go above and beyond what the NHS can pay for; such as fitness equipment, horticulture and music therapy, sensory equipment & virtual reality, arts and crafts, cooking and baking equipment and trips out in the Sowenna minibus.

    Situation

It is estimated that 1 in 8 young people aged between 5 and 19 have a mental disorder. Most can be treated within the community, but some require a more intensive programme of treatment and care. At Sowenna we provide psychiatric treatment to some of Cornwall’s most ill and vulnerable young people and we need your help to enhance Sowenna with equipment, activities and therapeutic programmes that go above and beyond what the NHS can pay for.

    Solution

Due to their mental ill health our patients do not have the same opportunities as other young people within their local communities to get out and about; a factor only exacerbated by this year's pandemic, which has further impacted on their mood, mental state and feelings of loneliness and anxiety. We want to reduce these inequalities by enhancing our on site facilities with fun, engaging and innovative equipment and activities to aid recovery and support our young people back home.
