    Situation

One of the life-threatening challenges facing people in Cambodia living with HIV - who aren't on a regular ARV regimen - is a compromised immune system that makes them susceptible to developing cryptococcyl meningitis. This is an opportunistic fungal infection that left untreated is fatal, but can be effectively treated with an anti-fungal medication called Amphotericin B. This drug is not available free of charge to patients in Cambodia, making it a death sentence to those who can't afford it.

    Solution

AidsArk have initiated a project to provide Amphotericin B medication to the primary HIV hospital in Phnom Penh - the Roussey hospital - which treats many of the patients with cryptococcyl meningitis. So when a patient is diagnosed with this infection they have the medication readily available, so this life saving treatment can happen even if the patient is not in a position to pay for it.
