We aim to provide more community services for autistic children and adults in Hampshire and the surrounding area, many of whom are in crisis situations because of coronavirus, as well autism training and support groups for parents and carers who are struggling to know how to support their children.

    Situation

It is already hard for the parents and carers of autistic people to access the support they need for their children. The situation has become even more serious in the light of the coronavirus crisis, however, where many of the usual services have had to close, and autistic people in particular have suffered social isolation and loneliness, leading to mental health conditions otherwise preventable. This has placed more demand on their families, who do not have the resources to support them.

    Solution

Autism Hampshire proposes to run a number of regular, local support groups for the parents/carers of autistic adults, as well as developing our training services to offer free sessions aimed at increasing knowledge of autism, with the help of our experts by experience, to address the issues faced by autistic people, and help parents know best how to support their children. In additional, we will continue to run and develop our social groups for autistic adults to reduce isolation.
