Theatres Trust is the national advisory body for theatres. We do this by providing advice, campaigning, and grant giving. COVID-19 has represented an existential crisis for theatres and this Re-opening and Reviving Fund will support theatres as they re-open safely after this crisis and beyond.

Situation
As a result of COVID 19 theatres have gone into liquidation, made staff redundancies, mothballed their buildings, struggled to gain public funding, been unable to make socially distancing work financially and been unable to keep up the maintenance of their buildings. Small to medium scale theatres will have used up their cash reserves to survive this period. They will struggle to afford the safety and maintenance issues needed to re-open and maintain their building and may close long term.
Solution
The Theatres Trust will solve the problem by giving grants to help small to medium scale theatres to cover essential re-opening costs to ensure they can open, as well as make further improvements and adaptations to their buildings post reopening. This could include safety measures like touch free taps in toilets and installation of plexiglass screens at box offices and maintenance issue that have resulted in neglect from the ongoing mothballing of the building that need to be addressed.
