Christmas is always a difficult time of the year for families who have fled from domestic violence and are living in refuge. KidsOut needs funds to provide children and their families living in refuge with brand-new boxes of toys and supermarket vouchers to support mental and physical health.

    Situation

Christmas is a difficult time for families who have escaped domestic violence and are living in refuge. Children can arrive at refuge deeply traumatised with only the clothes on their backs, lacking personal items like toys. With the impacts of Covid-19 still being felt, this Christmas will be tougher than usual. A recent survey uncovered that roughly 30% of the refuges KidsOut supports across the UK are not receiving assistance from local foodbanks, while 40% lack free school meal vouchers.

    Solution

KidsOut will brighten the festive period of families living in refuge by providing boxes of brand-new toys and supermarket vouchers. The families we support will receive a £25 voucher for a supermarket of their choice to purchase essential groceries, while the children will be given a brand-new box of toys and games (valued at £60-£80 per box). Each toy box will be age appropriate, filled with a family game, jigsaw puzzle, craft activity, action figure/doll, books and a cuddly toy.
