Staying Focused

IntoUniversity provides local learning centres where young people are inspired to achieve. We believe our students have been hardest hit by the COVID-19 crisis and will suffer long-term consequences to their education. Our established centres across London are uniquely placed to keep them on track.

  • By coming to IntoUniversity and getting help with my homework, I hope to get the best grades I possibly can in my exams. I keep coming back to IntoUniversity because it is a very nice, social place where you can get your homework done but also see friends at the same time!

  • Academic Support...has helped my children to improve their confidence, their communication skills, and they have also made friends. IntoUniversity has improved their learning and the staff are very friendly

    — Parent of Academic Support Students

  • IntoUniversity has set a foundation for our students on how and when to start to think about the future. It has enabled students to express themselves, enhance their skills and to make informed future decisions.

    — Teacher at an IntoUniversity Partner Secondary School

  • [IntoUniversity] gave the children an understanding of the importance of considering their future [and] introduced them to the language around university. It opened their eyes to the range of options there are and made them see that university was for everyone.

Situation

IntoUniversity addresses the problem of educational inequality and social exclusion by supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their potential. Growing up in poverty greatly affects a child’s educational success and life outcomes. These students are less likely to attend university, more likely to suffer from ill health, and to be unemployed. The COVID-19 crisis has exacerbated these issues for our students across London, making our objectives more relevant than ever.

Solution

Our local learning centres across London work closely with families and schools over the long term, providing vital academic and pastoral support to young people and communities most in need. Through our innovative support programme, we raise students’ aspirations and knowledge of future pathways, enabling them to reach their goals. During the COVID-19 crisis and school closure period, we adapted our programme to a remote service ensuring no student was left behind.
