For the 500+ orphans & children living with HIV at Paorinher, poor facilities expose their vulnerable bodies to diseases. Growing food is difficult because the soil is poor and there is no access to clean energy. The 10 bio-toilets this project will deliver addresses these interlinked challenges.

    Situation

Paorinher is a safe haven for 500+ orphans and vulnerable children living with HIV. Poor soil and lack of electricity reduces yields from the Centre's farm, and our work with them is addressing this to enable food security and help generate income. Paorinher also want to build bio-toilets and washrooms so that the children are not exposed to infection from poor sanitation and hygiene, and they can generate biogas for cooking, saving costs and reducing carbon footprint.

    Solution

We will build 10 bio-toilets and washing facilities at Paorinher, directly improving the health of 500+ children. This will also prevent spread of infectious disease in children's families and the wider community in Agogo District. A bio-toilet converts human waste into a quality fertilizer that is safe to handle and can be used for agriculture. In the same process, biogas is also produced and can be used for cooking. Using biogas saves money on charcoal and is better for the environment.
