This year nearly 500 teen and young cancer patients will spend their Christmas day far from home, family and friends in the fight for their lives. We want to ensure these young cancer patients are not forgotten and receive an age-appropriate gift to let them know they are not in this fight alone.

    Situation

Combatting loneliness and isolation in teen and young cancer patients. Christmas is a time for family and friends and nearly 500 young cancer patients will be spending their Christmas in a hospital bed enduring invasive treatments for their cancer. We ensure they will receive an age-appropriate gift to let them know they are not alone in this fight against cancer and this appeal gives great support to their emotional well being.

    Solution

There are only 43 specialist hospitals throughout the UK and Ireland admitting young cancer patients, they have to travel far from home to access treatments for their cancer. If a young person is aged under 16 they are hospitalised in the paediatric wards, if aged over 16 they are hospitalised within the adult wards, neither is appropriate for their health and wellbeing. Early December we contact the 43 hospitals to confirm patients numbers so nobody is forgotten at Christmas.
