    Situation

Coming from a disadvantaged background means young people are far less likely to achieve good grades at school. We work with young people aged 9 to 16 in these partner schools, who have been referred to us for one of the following reasons: low academic attainment, low confidence, low self-esteem, behaviour issues, or because their teachers believe they would benefit from the support of a role model. 78% of our students are Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME).

    Solution

There is a clear link between early disadvantage and low attainment, which trap young people in a cycle of poverty. Our mentoring works to change this, giving disadvantaged young people one-to-one support to improve their academic attainment, character, confidence and behaviour. Support from a mentor can help to develop those key skills and strengths.
