Long hospital stays can be very frightening for children with cancer or life-challenging conditions. We will transform bare, clinical areas in local children's wards into bright, child-friendly spaces that help soothe and distract children from the pain and anxiety of treatment and hospital stays.

Situation
Children with cancer or life-challenging conditions can spend days, weeks or even months in hospital undergoing gruelling treatment plans, which can be very traumatic for them and their families. Research shows that the environment they are treated in makes a huge difference to their experience in hospital and can even impact how well they respond to treatment. Whilst the NHS provides excellent medical care, their restricted budgets don’t extend to creating child-friendly ward refurbishments.
Solution
Momentum Children’s Charity has 16 years experience of creating transformational ward refurbishments in local hospitals. We'll work with our partners in the NHS, along with leading designers, to transform hospital rooms from plain, clinical environments to child-friendly, positive spaces. We’ll use colourful artwork, and special lighting, furniture and toys to distract children from the procedures they have to undergo, and to relieve the fear, anxiety and boredom of long hospital stays.
