    Situation

At present current challenges facing the target area include increased levels of inactivity, a lack of community cohesion and increased crime issues. Further compounding the problems are high levels of deprivation in the each of the target areas as on average 25% of children aged under 16 are living in poverty. These children are often far less likely to participate in after school programmes and are more likely to become involved in a life of crime.

    Solution

'Cricket' will be the main catalyst to bring at risk young people together offering them a safe and fun environment in which to interact. The key focus will be on young people playing together, communicating through sport and interacting together for the first ever time – through the power of sport. This is achieved through reactive learning within free weekly cricket sessions and the delivery of workshops from external organisations on topics including healthy living, gang and knife violence.
