This campaign has now closed

This year we are raising money to provide 30 boxes of books to the most in need families in rural Andean Peru. COVID-19 has had a significant effect on families and education; school has been cancelled throughout Peru. Without internet access or even electricity many families are struggling.

    Situation

Our charity supports the voluntary network of community libraries and librarians that operates in the Cajamarca region of rural Andean Peru. They provide access to books to many rural and impoverished communities that would otherwise have little or no access to resources for education, reference or culture. Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic has had a wide-reaching effect: schools have been closed, travel has reduced and library activity has either been suspended or significantly scaled back.

    Solution

We are raising money to provide boxes containing 50 books and a dictionary to 30 of the most in need families. These are families that have no access to technology with no internet access and more often than not, no electricity. These books will help support children who have been unable to attend school due to closures and have no other access to education. Whilst the normal library network is suspended to safeguard volunteers and communities from COVID this will be an invaluable resource.
