    Situation

The UK has a huge social mobility problem. The top professions are dominated by the middle-class, with just 6% of doctors, 6% of barristers and 12% of journalists from working-class backgrounds.A low-ability child from a high-income family is 35% more likely to become a high-earner than a high-ability child from a low-income family. Regardless of their talent, disadvantaged young people are unlikely to secure places at elite universities and jobs with top employers without support.

    Solution

We help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds achieve their potential despite the odds. Students get a mentor, work experience, university visits and application advice, and skills training. Our programme runs in London, Cardiff, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow with residential and online opportunities so we can support young people from anywhere in the UK. We advocate for improved social mobility and champion employers who put social mobility first.
