Situation
Spinal cord injuries cause paralysis, loss of bowel and bladder control and even reliance on a ventilator to breathe. Learning to live with a spinal cord injury and the associated physical, emotional, and social complexities is a huge challenge - for all the family. Loved ones often become carers and families can be torn apart due to inaccessible housing, poor care packages, financial pressures or mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.
Solution
SIA will deliver a network of services addressing the needs of spinal cord injured people and their families focusing on body, mind, life and livelihood. To empower a spinal cord injured person to fully rehabilitate after injury, we will address both physical and mental health through our services including; a freephone advice line, peer-led counselling, peer support, specialist clinical advice, advocacy and training. We will help families face the future with knowledge, confidence and hope.
