During their stay, the children will be supported at all times by a qualified nurse, a member of our care team and a sibling support worker, we also have a dedicated BAME support worker. A doctor and an advance nurse practitioner will be available should they be needed. On arrival we’ll meet the family to co-create an activity plan for their stay which meets their needs
Solution
42 children with a life-shortening illness will come to Russell House for a 24/48-hour resilience-building break. Most will be accompanied by their families, including an anticipated 100 siblings (also disadvantaged). The length of stay will depend on children’s needs. Our staff are fully trained and equipped with PPE to provide Covid19 secure care. The respite will focus on supporting children/young people to build their resilience to cope with the challenges caused by the Covid-19 situation.
