We're asking those who don't need their winter fuel payment to donate it to some of the 1 in 8 households in Somerset living in fuel poverty. Together, we can reduce fuel poverty and isolation in the county and keep older people warm, safe and well.

Situation
Around 10% of Somerset households live in fuel poverty and in 2017-18, there were more than 500 excess winter deaths in the county. Many pensioners in rural communities struggle to heat their homes and avoid putting the heating on because of worries about cost. This can cause health issues and mean older people are living in very difficult conditions. As older people spend more time at home in light of coronavirus, we want make sure no one has to choose between heating and eating.
Solution
We'll work in partnership with organisations across the county to make hundreds of small grants to low-income pensioners who are living in fuel poverty, alleviating financial worries and helping to keep older people warm safe and well through the winter.
