Situation
Too many people die when suffering a serious accident or medical emergency out of hospital. If specialist clinical interventions are carried out at the scene, patients have the best chance of surviving with good outcomes. Many procedures require highly complex and specialist skills, and our Doctors and Paramedics need to be able to deliver this advanced level of treatment, often in very difficult circumstances, with the confidence and competence to give every patient the best chance of survival.
Solution
An Education Fund for 2021 will mean our Doctors and Paramedics can undertake advanced training to improve their skills in specialist areas. This will include a specialist, bespoke Surgical Skills course for crew so they can carry out life-saving surgery at the scene of an emergency, including open heart surgery and amputations. Other specialist training includes Advanced Life Support, enhanced resuscitation skills, and a helicopter emergency simulator course for our Specialist Paramedics.
