Situation
Homelessness affects people for many reasons: trauma, poverty, abuse, addiction and mental health. When Simon lost his job, he started drinking and his mental health took a dark turn. He fell behind on rent and struggled to find a new job. When he became homeless, he turned to us for help. Sofia moved to Aberdeen with her husband to study. It was difficult to settle in a new place, their marriage declined and her husband started to abuse her. Scared and afraid, she came to us for help.
Solution
We provide support to help people access financial, practical and emotional assistance; providing the basic essentials and giving the breathing space needed to work together to tackle the long term issues that left them homeless or in crisis. Getting help from Aberdeen Cyrenians has been life-changing for me. When i first came to them, I was drained, tired, and felt like giving up. They really inspired me to make changes. I’m slowly moving forward, working hard, and i now have a full-time job.
