We will create a sensory environment to support tenants’ health and wellbeing. Designed and equipped to meet individual need, it will open up new experiences for tenants, be a safe space to relieve stress and fitness in a variety of ways, and provide a communal space to come together.

    Situation

Sensory environments are enormously valuable to those with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, and sensory impairments, however there are very few such spaces available in and around Exeter, in particular for adults with learning difficulties and other special needs. Our tenants do not currently have access to a sensory environment, so we want to be able to provide a safe and calm space where they will be encouraged and supported to develop their health and wellbeing.

    Solution

We will build a sensory room on-site at our Exeter Rainbow House; we will create a safe and calming space where tenants are supported to develop and engage their sensory skills, where they can relax and relieve stress and where they can develop their health, wellbeing and social skills, individually or as a group. Creating a room separate from the house itself will provide a further environment where tenants can be supported to build confidence, resilience and wellbeing long into the future.
