    Situation

As the impact of Covid-19 has meant live cultural events have been cancelled and postponed, many artists have seen their income disappear overnight. Young people wanting to get into the creative sector face fresh barriers as youth unemployment rises. There is vast reduction in the number of entry level roles and commissioning opportunities available for artists, with those from under-represented backgrounds being most deeply affected. If we do not act, we will lose a generation of creatives.

    Solution

As home to the UK’s largest concentration of artists, makers and creative enterprises, the arts charity Somerset House is well placed to address these challenges. Our Young Talent Fund enables Somerset House to provide bursaries and financial relief to artists who couldn’t otherwise afford to be in residence at Somerset House Studios. The Young Talent Fund also supports young under-represented people aged 18-25 seeking to get into the creative sector through our Upgrade Yourself programme.
