BAND is seeking support to help fund our programme of free training courses, which is aimed at improving the skills of childcare staff, volunteers, committee members, teachers, nursery staff, support and youth workers. There are around 82 courses each year, reaching out to around 1,300 participants.

Situation
We want all children to have the opportunity to access timely, appropriate, well resourced and integrated early education and childcare provision. All children should be able to enjoy their play and learning, grow up healthy & achieve to the best of their potential, wherever they live. We are fully committed to investing in workforce skills in order to meet children's unique needs, play and learning styles & to ensure they have safe and stimulating environment in which to learn, develop & grow.
Solution
At the heart of our work is the establishment of good quality childcare & a highly-trained workforce is central to this aim - our commitment to investing in free training is crucial to achieving this. And it's working - Ofsted inspections for childcare providers in Bristol has significantly improved over the last 5 years. In 2017 Private Nursery Ofsted inspections that are ‘good’ or ‘better’ improved from 74% to 97%, Voluntary Groups from 69% to 100% & Out of School groups from 51% to 76%.
