For victims 2020 has been an incredibly dangerous year, as lockdown has seen reports of domestic abuse skyrocket. We hope 2021 is a fresh start but without your support, the combined trauma of CV19 and domestic abuse could be insurmountable for children in our refuges.

    Situation

Hestia saw a 200% increase in treferrals to our refuges during CV19. Research revealled almost 50% millennials experienced domestic abuse in childhood. Almost 60% went on to experience depression, anxiety and PTSD in adulthood. Compounded by this year of uncertainty and anxiety with CV19, we know that specialist support is urgently needed for children to address trauma they have faced, and to ensure 2021 indicates a life beyond crisis.

    Solution

Your support will enable us to tailor support to each individual child’s needs. If a child requires therapeutic support, you could facilitate that, and remove the months-long waiting lists and address early signs of mental health challenges. If a family need school uniform or stationary to adjust to the new normal at their new schools, you can help. Or if families in our refuges need play equipment to help them bond during their stay at our refuge – your donation could make that happen.
