    Situation

There are 80,000 older people who are living alone in Northern Ireland. As many as 1 in 3 are telling us that they are lonely. A regular friendly phone call can make a huge difference to someone who has no one else to turn to. “The Check in and Chat service is a lifeline to me. I don’t get speaking to anyone else.” Age NI Service User

    Solution

Since April Age NI has provided over 36,008 calls supporting 2,215 older people in need. We want to extend our Check in and Chat service so that it reaches more older people who need friendship and support this winter. A donation of just £10 could cover the cost of a friendly phone call to an older person who needs someone to talk to. “I don’t think there are words to describe the difference the Check in and Chat calls have made to my life and mental health.” Age NI Service User
