Oasis Project gives help and hope to women, children and families affected by drug and alcohol problems. We have two main groups of services – a treatment service for women and a therapeutic service for children and families. We deliver services in Brighton & Hove and across East Sussex.

    Situation

Parental substance misuse can lead to immediate and long-term harm to children. They may face a higher risk of mental health problems in adulthood and of misusing substances themselves. Children may encounter physical, sexual, psychological and emotional abuse as well as neglect, which can affect both physical and mental health and wellbeing. Children of substance misusing parents often miss developmental milestones. We’re here to help children and their families.

    Solution

Our service supports children and young people (from 0-18 years) who come from families with parental substance misuse. We offer therapeutic services and a crèche service for vulnerable babies and children. We work creatively so when words are not enough, or are difficult to find, we use images, paints, clay, music and puppets to express feelings. Their situation may not have changed but the way that they feel about it can. The crèche also gives mothers an opportunity to access treatment.
