Crossway Pregnancy Crisis Centre

Counsellor for pregnancy loss support

We want to extend our support to women and men who are struggling after pregnancy loss (miscarriage, post-abortion and stillbirth) to include those with more complex needs by continuing to have a professional counsellor available to manage the listening service.

We are finding that increasingly clients are coming to us with complex needs as well as the pregnancy loss, which has led them to contact us. Our listeners, most of whom are volunteers, are not general counsellors but are trained (120 hours) specifically to deliver a 10 step pregnancy loss course. Clients with complex needs (e.g. suicide ideation, bipolar, peronality disorder) have to be referred to other support, which will not necessarily have particular expertise about pregnancy loss.

Employ a qualified counsellor to run our listening service, who is able to deal with clients with complex needs. They will also be able to ensure that the training and support given to our listeners is in line with current standards for counsellors.

  • “What the sessions had actually done was help me accept what had happened, once I did this, it enabled me to move forward and become less upset. I had been in denial about what happened and the sessions helped me accept and see a more positive future.”

    — Miscarriage client

  • “Crossways helped me to process my emotions of my abortion. Now, whilst it will always be a part of me and I will always respect that moment..., I am able to feel comfortable moving forward with my life... I am better equipped, stronger, to manage things in the future.”

    — Post abortion client

  • "I have been able to be myself and say things I haven't been able to say to anyone else. I felt empathy not sympathy which is important, I've learnt new coping mechanisms. I've learnt that how I'm feeling is ok and normal. It has helped me immensely."

    — Male stillbirth

  • "X has been amazing and really helped me get through this. She was often the only person who I could tell and who would understand. Your service is really important for women in my situation and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart and wish you well."
