    Situation

Unlike many Rwandan schools, our partner school in Kigali, Umubano Academy, has highly trained teachers, outstanding facilities, an excellent academic record, a reputation for Creative Arts, support for children with additional needs, and a pedagogical approach focused on developing skills for peacebuilding and problem solving. We want children from the most deprived local families to enjoy the high quality education offered by Umubano but such families simply cannot afford to pay school fees.

    Solution

Umubano Academy's scholarship programme provides 30 + scholarship places to students within 30 minutes’ walking distance of the school who are from low income families. Funds go towards school fees, scholastic materials, school uniforms and class resources. The funding ensures the school is equipped with highly qualified staff who receive in-service training from international education specialists and a designated SEN teacher, allowing the school to support children with a range of needs.
