Situation
Malawi ranks 172 on UNDP’s Human Development Index (HDI) and scores poorly for Health, Education and Gender Development indicators. Our project will address the following: • Low school enrolment rates in secondary and tertiary levels • Poor quality of education and skills/ entrepreneurial training • Inequality of education access and retention in rural areas – females, disabled people and poor households. • COVID-19 impacts – C-19 orphans, gender-based violence (GBV) and loss of earnings.
Solution
Over three years we will work with parents, orphan guardians, teachers, community leaders and a network of village volunteers to remove identified barriers to poor school attendance. We will add value to current school provision to improve education standards, particularly for orphans, girls and women, supporting their economic independence and employability.
