    Situation

Human rights law protects everyone – but many people don’t know what their rights are or how to use them. With threats to the Human Rights Act, alongside reductions in services for vulnerable people, and cuts to legal aid for family, immigration, housing and employment cases, demand for free legal advice has never been greater. And the coronavirus crisis has further highlighted inequalities in society and the importance of free, independent and accessible legal advice.

    Solution

Liberty’s Advice and Information service provides free legal guidance on human rights issues on the phone, by email and by post to anyone in England and Wales. The specialist team provides a lifeline to thousands of people every year, who might otherwise have nowhere else to turn for help, empowering them to challenge injustice. Complementing the service’s cores function is its outreach work focusing on providing expert support to frontline organisations through practical materials and training.
