Rolling out hybrid learning (combining face-to-face and distance learning) is a key strategic goal for Sabre over the next 3 years. The COVID-19 pandemic has acted as a catalyst to start this work, and we have ambitious plans to continue rolling out this work to benefit all of our beneficiaries.

    Situation

Four and five-year-old children in Ghana are being failed by the education system right at the start of their learning journey due to a lack of quality in kindergarten education. Many teachers lack specialist early years training, resulting in low learning outcomes for children. Learning is delivered through rote, corporal punishment is prevalent and there are very limited classroom resources. Sabre tackles these challenges through our Transformational Teacher Training programme.

    Solution

Sabre’s work has already had a transformative effect on kindergarten education in Ghana. To date we have trained 1,892 teachers, student teachers and head teachers, reaching 72,912 children. Independent evaluations have shown that our face-to-face training has a positive impact on the quality of kindergarten education. Now we want to deepen the impact of our work, further increasing the benefits of our training, by introducing hybrid learning to supplement the face-to-face training we provide.
