    Situation

In Tanzania there are 111 dentists for a population of 56 million, the situation is similar in Malawi. So dental pain and infection are rarely treated leaving millions in at risk and in agony. Members of poor rural communities are most at risk because they are too far away from treatment centres to afford to travel there, or to afford treatment. Prior to COVID19 we provided innovative 121 training to health workers in remote rural locations. We are now looking for new ways to use our expertise.

    Solution

This project aims to develop an e-learning platform to be able to carry out some of this training remotely, to increase the number of local trainers used, and to support the health workers once they have been trained. Bridge2Aid also aims to expand the involvement of East African dentists, creating continuing development, mentoring, and peer support opportunities. This will ensure skills are used and people in rural communities get vital access to pain and life-saving treatment.
