    Situation

Watts Gallery – Artists’ Village is in Surrey, a county frequently characterised by its affluence but research shows that throughout the county there are tight pockets of deprivation. Often these are adjacent to wealthy areas that camouflage the extent of need, driving down the statistics and diverting funds to areas of more widespread poverty in other parts of the country. 2019’s Index of Multiple Deprivation shows that Surrey’s most deprived areas are within 13 miles of the Artists' Village.

    Solution

Working in close partnership with schools, community groups, local government authorities and other charities, we design art workshops for the particular needs of the people that we support. Workshops are led by professional artists who use our collections, exhibitions, buildings and landscape in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to inspire each individual and find an artistic medium that works for them. Participants create artworks to exhibit, sell, gain qualifications and achieve awards.
