Central provides outstanding conservatoire training for the performing arts; we are determined to offer this to as wide a range of young people as possible. Scholarships and Bursaries help break down the barriers which deter applicants from groups underrepresented in the industry.

    Situation

The prospect of the costs of training and working in the arts can deter some from choosing to apply to Central. Post COVID-19, those fears will be intensified. Without providing financial support we risk loosing applicants from a wide range of people who choose to train to work in the film, TV & theatre industries. Without a diverse pipeline of talent, our stage & screen industries risk being a mono-culture which fails to engage with the unrepresented groups of today's communities.

    Solution

We will overcome the financial barrier of applying to Central by offering Scholarships and Bursaries. Scholarships between £5,000 and £10,000 help with the costs of tuition fees and living expenses and are awarded on a combined basis of merit and financial need. Bursaries of approx. £1,000 will provide support for first year undergraduate students who are from a widening participation background and with a household income lower than £25,000 or are care leavers.
