Following Covid-19 and the impact isolation has on families in poverty, we know that if we train our mothers in small farming, which would include duck and goat rearing as well as Sack and Homestead Gardening, more families will have a regular source of income to sustain a life without poverty.

    Situation

The majority of single mothers and children that come to live in The Sreepur Village are from the poorest areas of Bangladesh. They often arrive with just the clothes on their backs, having fled from domestic abuse or from the streets. Following Covid-19 many families are in isolation with no regular source of food or income. It is imperative that when our mothers return to their communities, they are able to earn a steady income and can provide their families with a sustainable source of food.

    Solution

By training single mothers in duck and goat rearing, as well as home-grown farming, when the mothers return to their communities they will be much more financially self-sufficient and will be able to provide their families with a regular source of food. This is especially important in Bangladesh during and after the Covid-19 crisis as many garments factories have been forced to close, leaving thousands without work, and communities have been cut-off from receiving essential supplies.
