Situation
The ex-industrial communities of Bolsover and NE Derbyshire are the most deprived in the County and specifically suffer from health and isolation issues. Lack of opportunity and investment has led to a range of socio-economic challenges including poverty and low aspirations. There are high levels of inequality with people from these communities not having access to the same life changing and transformational experiences that participation in arts and culture can bring.
Solution
We know the arts can have a significantly positive impact on people and places, it can increase well-being and aid people’s understanding of the world and their place within it. Our work brings communities together, gives people a ‘voice’, develops confidence, skills and aspirations and gives people opportunities and purpose. We develop projects and events with local people that are responsive and have a long-lasting impact on the communities that take part.
