People like you or I are being prevented from freely living their lives by those in power just for being an indigenous minority, a refugee or of a different faith. Effective relationships between communities & those in power are key to enabling people to flourish and this is the focus of Cord's work

    Situation

When relationships break down between communities & those holding power then people’s rights are ignored, the likelihood of conflict increases & poverty is prolonged. This is case where Cord works. Indigenous communities in Cambodia are forced from their land by illegal loggers & unscrupulous businesses. Losing their land means losing their livelihoods. In Burundi, marginalised groups who fled the country during the civil war struggle to re-integrate & are excluded from society creating tensions

    Solution

The path to peace needs everyone, whether you are a farm worker, a student, a leader in your community or a decision maker in Government. That is why we take the slow road to change by involving even the most complex and challenging elements of society in discussions. We believe that trying to achieve peace while not including some parts of society is like driving a car with a flat tyre. Everything needs to work to reach your destination. That is why we bring everyone on the journey.
