Not being able to give your child a proper burial or receive face-to-face help during the COVID-19 crisis is likely to have a long-term impact on many families. We expect more families to contact us for help this Christmas and in 2021, and want to ensure we can support every family who needs help.

    Situation

During the pandemic, self-isolating has been particularly hard for families whose baby or child has died. Restrictions to funerals have made it even harder for families to say goodbye to their child and many have been unable to mark their anniversaries with loved ones. For new and expectant parents, local health services are still disrupted leaving many thousands of families unable to receive the same level of face-to-face care and advice. It is unclear how and when normal services will resume.

    Solution

Our helpline will provide emotional support, advice and information to bereaved parents and family members over the phone, via web chat, through social media and email. It will be available whether someone is newly bereaved or the bereavement was many years ago and will be provided for as long as it is needed. Our information line will provide advice and information for new and expectant parents on how to sleep their baby safely and reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
