Help empower 82 girls to finish school & go on to change South Sudan. Only 5% of girls start secondary education & the majority drop out. When we enable a girl to complete her third year of secondary school, we double her chances of finishing her education & equip her to become an agent of change.

    Situation

Only 5% of girls in South Sudan enrol in secondary education, and fewer than 1% complete schooling. The highest drop-out rates are in S2 and S3, the middle 2 years of the 4-year secondary curriculum. This low level of education fuels & is compounded by the world’s highest levels of illiteracy & maternal mortality & factors like gender-based violence, early & forced marriage, and displacement. Girls' education remains especially undervalued, & a lack of access to quality education hinders change.

    Solution

Helping girls to stay in education until the end of S3 doubles their chances of completing school, dramatically increasing their life chances and choices. Friends of Ibba Girls' School helps to provide quality education, regardless of background or status, in a safe, residential environment. The school is rooted in good leadership & teaching, & strong community relationships; it is seen by the Education Ministry as a model for developing, improving & sustaining quality education in South Sudan.
