CV19 has devastated the performing arts in 2020: hundreds of superb musicians, support personnel and venues have suffered major financial loss. In our small way we’ll help classical musicians to get back on their feet, through exciting performances and our biennial Young Singers’ Competition.

    Situation

Online opera has flourished during the lockdown and created new audiences. But it is vital for the emotional health of the public and the professional development of musicians that live music bounces back in 2021. Loss of earnings and morale amongst performing artists has been considerable and the sector now needs massive support – without this UK culture will suffer irredeemably. Also audiences, especially the elderly, need to be encouraged to attend live events again.

    Solution

Recently ‘The Spectator’ reported: “The companies best adapted to this new landscape are not the major national institutions, they are the small, agile, budget-on-a-Post-it ensembles of no fixed abode.” Despite CV19-cancelled performances in 2020 we are very well placed to bounce back, delighting and educating audiences and promoting the early careers of outstanding young musicians. If social distancing and audience fears of events remain current, our open-air venues can offer reassurance.
